Adventures of August...Part 2

It is hard to believe that August is nearly over and September is just around the corner!  I am so grateful for these sweet days and truly treasure each one as a gift from our incredibly good God.  Ethan and I are so blessed, and while we look forward to all of the great things that lie ahead in the months and years to come, we acknowledge that today is precious and to be enjoyed.  This time of ours as a family of three with a happy go lucky two year old and our trusty canine Boomerang at our feet is a time that I will always remember with warm smiles and happy memories.

Alright, reminiscing aside and back in the present, here are some pictures of the second half of our month.  Hope you enjoy!

Firsts

Photobucket
This month came with a few firsts.  Eli slept in a "big boy bed" for the first time.  While he is still currently sleeping in his crib, he has taken a few naps on the big bed in our guest room.  We're going to change out his crib for a twin bed here soon, but it is good to know that he has had a few successful naps on a big bed!  Another first is that Eli went "poopoo" on his little potty!  I will spare you the picture on that one, so you will just have to take my word for it. :)  While we have only had one successful potty attempt at this point, I count that as progress and felt it to be blog worthy documentation. :)

Photobucket
This picture is a little blurry, but you can see Eli playing my pot as a violin using his drum stick as the bow.  And the music obsession continues...major points for creatvity here Eli!

A sweet potato from my pantry...I wasn't quite sure whether I should plant it or eat it!  I decided to compost it (we got a compost tumbler for our backyard).  Our of laziness I did not chop it up but threw it in whole, sure that the worms in there would chomp through this thing in no time.  Much to my disappointment, it is still currently whole.  Ethan and I now have a little bet going...I think that by the time our compost is finished this sucker is going to be nothing but dirt, but Ethan thinks he is going to find and throw away a whole potato.  We will keep you updated as the the results come November.  Go worms!

Photobucket
Eli has lately been very interested and entertained with piecing together his letter mats.

Photobucket
Building his "track"
Photobucket
Very focused!  He will do this for a long time and then when he is finished he will proudly come and get me to show me his track.

Guess who found a piano? :)  There is no way my little musician was going to miss this!

Photobucket
Whew, all that playing makes a boy hungry!  Nothing like a little raisins and pretzels to refill the old tank.  And in case you are wondering, Eli fixed his hat like this himself. :)

Houston
Photobucket
This past weekend we made another trip into Houston for a friend's baby shower.  We had a great time and the shower was a success.  We especially loved getting to hang out with many of our friends from college who are now living in Houston.  While I am sad to say that I do not have a single picture of them, I do have some of Eli with new best friend Kelsey. :)  Shocker, I know...no pictures of us, tons of the kid.

Photobucket
We beat our friends Matt and Julie to their own house, so we took advantage of their toys and play area in the back yard.

Eli:  "Are you sure about this Dad?"

Eli: "Alright, one quick one and then I am outta here."

Photobucket
Whoa!  And they're off with a jolt...so much for finesse. :)

Photobucket
Everyone always told me he'd be driving before I knew it... and boy were they right!

Eli and Kelsey ditched the pink car for their bikes after a while.  Eli borrowed this sweet bike and got the hang of it in no time.

"Ahh, this is the life.  I was born to ride."

That't it for now!  Hope you enjoyed the "ride". :)

Adventures of August

August has been a month packed full of fun and adventures so far. Here is a glimpse of what we have been up to lately. We look forward to all of the excitement that August still has in store!

Houston
Photobucket
Eli and I took a little trip down to Houston to visit some of my great friends from college.  Believe it or not, my camera battery was dead, but I managed to snag a few pics on my phone.  Here are Eli and Avery (my good friend Karrie's little girl) painting...so cultured.  Eli and Avery are only 3 weeks apart and we are pretty sure that they will get married one day. ;)

Pondering the great mysteries of life with Garfield.  It's always nice to have a good friend who will just listen.

Photobucket
Watching the ants walk up and down the tree in our front yard

Photobucket
Eli asked why they kept walking on the tree and I told him they were just exercising.  I'm not sure he bought it.
Photobucket
After losing interest in the ants, Eli decided to play an instrument on the bushes.  Passing over the obvious choice of drums, he noted that he was going to play the bushes like a guitar. :)

At the Park

Photobucket
If we can't make it to the beautiful white sand beaches of Florida or Cancun this year, guess we'll have to settle for the sand volleyball court at the park nearby. What can I say, for a two year old this comes in a close second.

Photobucket
More sand time with all of his sand toys

Photobucket
This picture makes me laugh.  If you look closely you can see Boomerang hiding in the shadow of the stroller.  He is hot and ready to go home! :)

After eating almost an entire grilled cheese sandwich of his own, Eli spotted Pop's waffle and instantly became his new best buddy.

We are pretty sure Eli downed about half of this waffle. :)

Photobucket
Eli played on this boat for a long time.  He enjoyed bringing us all sorts of pretend food from the various bins.

Photobucket
We went to visit baby Creed, our newest nephew, on Saturday.  While the big deal was made over seeing the new baby, Eli was much more entertained hanging out with his older cousins- Emory, Asher, and Abram, Mamie and Pops, and Aunt Amber and Uncle Eric.  Here is one picture of story time on Pop's lap.
